This is more or less true. Though I didn’t tell my son that cops are dumb, I did have a moment of panic when Spidey is swinging through New York, racing toward Osborn Tower to risk his life to save the city, and a cadre of SWAT dudes unleash a barrage of tazer bolt things at him. To make it worse, once he’s forced to fight his way out of a really bad situation and manages to convince the Captain of the NYPD–and unhappy father of his new girlfriend–that he has to go, a lone officer shoots him in the damn leg! Logan–that’s my son, by the way and yes he’s named after that Logan…it says GEEK right in the site’s URL–turned to me and asked, “Dad, why would the cops shoot at Spidey when he’s trying to save everyone? Isn’t he supposed to be the good guy?”
I will say this…trying to tell an 8-year-old who just watched a really cool superhero movie that being a superhero is actually against the law is a bit unpleasant. In the end, he understood; but still, reality is a lot less awesome.
Either way, it made for a cool comic!
If you haven’t seen Amazing Spider-Man yet, you seriously need to. Unless you don’t like Spider-Man…or have an unhealthy loyalty to Toby’s turn in the red and blue tights. Either way…get over it! It’s a fantastic ride!
Later!

Ohhh wow, this is definitely a difficult facet of parenting. Emma isn’t quite there yet, but she’s beginning to pick up on things and asking questions. We haven’t watched any superhero movies yet though. Very poignant comic though, hehe. Love it!
It’s something I never even considered until yesterday.
