New Gigs and Bad Movies

Happy Wednesday, guys!

First, let me apologize for the tardiness of Monday’s comic. I work security for a major corporation—my “day job” if you will—and Monday night we had drills, which meant that I was unable to do a whole lot but sleep, spend a little time with my boys and fiancé, and then head to work for nine grueling hours of tedium. That said, I tried to make up for it on Tuesday, but ended up starting way later than I should have and, as a result, you guys didn’t get the comic until after eleven. As I said, I’m trying to maintain a schedule here, but try is definitely the operative word here.

But…the comic did go up and that’s something, right?

Okay, now that that’s out of the way, I’m going to drop a few things on you guys.  Ready? No? Okay, I’ll wait…

 ….

 …okay? Okay!

First, I have recently accepted a position on the writing staff for 8DayAGeek.com—a fantastic site for all geek news—and will be doing, at the very least, a monthly editorial for them. The first one should be up in the next week or so and those that follow will be posted on Tuesdays; they gave me a choice between Monday and Tuesday and, since I have made a commitment to getting comics posted on Mondays and Fridays, I chose Tuesday. Already I’m having a blast and feel like I’m part of a close-knit team of professionals. It feels good to write something knowing that it is going to be featured on a site I don’t run myself.

So, look for me to post notifications of my articles and other things I think you guys should check out on the site via my Twitter or the Wednesday Blog.

The second thing I wanted to mention is that Paranormal Activity 4 has released its first trailer. I think this is worth mentioning simply because, up until this trailer, I have been an avid fan of the series. I am normally against “Annual Franchises” by default, but this one—while not Oscar-winning material by any standard—always left me wanting more. It’s a great concept and I think each of the films has had their own successes and, yes, failures. But the thing is, I am a fan of “Found Footage Films” (i.e. Cloverfield, Chronicle, and any of the PA movies thus far) but the genre has an unbalanced ratio of good to horrible movies and I’m more often left wishing they hadn’t been made; no matter now awesome the concept.

I feel like this last installment is going to fall within the latter category.

After viewing the trailer, I was left with a feeling of disappointment. I’m sure you’ll want to see it yourself, so I won’t go into detail with what I found…lacking…in the trailer. But I will say my primary reason for my current state of disinterest, is that the trailer shows a film that I already know I won’t be able to suspend enough of my disbelief to become absorbed in the narrative and the presented world’s plausibility. These things are integral to a good horror movie because you need to believe these things could happen in order for you to fear them…and fear is, y’know, kind of important when watching a scary movie. I don’t know, I guess it could just be me finally allowing the inevitable faults of a franchise that puts out a movie every year—without a pre-planned execution—to get the better of my movie-going open-mindedness.

Ah, well, I’m sure they’ll make Magic Mike 3D at some point. I guess I’ll just go see that when I want to be scared out of my mind. I can see the tag line on that one sheet now…

“Now They Rock Out with Their Cocks Out….in 3D…”

 God save us all…
