I have no doubt that CBS’s new show will actually be pretty good and, from what I can tell, it doesn’t have a whole lot in common with BBC’s Sherlock other than the fact that the premise is to bring the characters into a modern setting. That said, however, the ads I’ve seen to date for Elementary come off as if CBS is the first network to have ever conceived of such a premise and, well, that doesn’t sit well with me. I get that CBS is an American broadcasting company and BBC is, uh, British, but they couldn’t possibly think that there isn’t a single American viewer who hasn’t seen BBC’s show. Over the last several years shows like Sherlock and Dr. Who–duh–have blasted into the American viewership with a fervor that most American shows can’t hope to achieve. This, of course, is mostly due to the fact that American programing has slipped so far into the Reality genre that it’s hard to imagine any of the big networks would take a risk on an original concept.
Thankfully, though, there does seem to be a slow swing away from Reality TV and into the realm of fictional entertainment once again. Shows like Elementary, Revolution, and Arrow give me hope that American television is on its way out of the Wasteland of Reality. We’ll see.
Anyway, sorry for the absence. I just got back on schedule and my internet went the way of the dodo for about a week. We’re up and running again, though, and today’s comic should be the first of a regularly scheduled strip once more.
Oh, and I had to make the Elementary logo myself, so it’s not exact, but it’s pretty damn close and I’m fairly proud of it, heh.
See you Monday!
